A daytime shooting killed a man on Thursday morning near the Sherwood Mall in North Stockton.

The shooting was first reported around 11 a.m., the Stockton Police Department said. When first responders arrived at Golden 1 Credit Union on Pacific Avenue, within the parking lot of the Sherwood Mall., they located an adult male with a gunshot wound on the southside of the building. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives were called and took over the investigation. There has not been a report on a possible motive or suspect information.

“We called out our homicide investigators who have been working on this nonstop, processing the scene, talking to witnesses , going through video surveillance,” Stockton PD spokesperson Joe Silva said. “Right now it appears there was some kind of disturbance outside of the credit union, with our victim and possibly one or two suspects.”

Silva said the incident happened outside the bank.

“Nothing occurred inside. Everything occurred outside inside the credit union. All the employees are OK,” Silva said. “Obviously they are traumatized by what happened because they were able to hear some things and see some things through the windows.”

The Delta College Police Department posted on its Facebook page that the suspects were seen fleeing the scene away for the college, which is directly across the street from the credit union. The post read: “Mustang Alert!: Police Activity at Mall – Shooting across from Stockton campus at the mall. Suspects fled away from campus. Delta is safe. Avoid Pacific Avenue.”
