With almost exactly half the primary election ballots counted, San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters Olivia declared everything is running smooth and on time.

The next update of votes will be released by 7 p.m. Friday on the Registrars’ website. The count will also be updated three times a week until finished, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Registrar’s Office released an unprocessed ballot report on Thursday afternoon. Of the 127,231 ballots received in the county, 63,432 have been reported and 63,799 need to be processed and reported.

“We’re almost exactly halfway through the count,” said Hale, saying there has not been any major issues in the process.

“Election night went wonderfully,” Hale said. “The count has been smooth and gone as expected.”

The vast majority of nonprocessed votes are mail-in ballots, with 57,779 fitting into that category. There are 3,000 vote by mail ballots received after election day, along with provisional ballots, damaged ballots and those that need to be reviewed totaling approximately another 2,600.

Hale voter turnout was low, with about a third of eligible voters participating.
