Authorities found a man’s body Sunday afternoon in the Whiskey Slough waterway east of Stockton, but it wasn’t a missing boater who had reportedly fallen or jumped into the water the day before.
San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies said they were called to the area in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta at 6 p.m. Saturday, after a man had jumped or possibly fallen off a moving boat.
Dispatchers were told that the man had not resurfaced.
The sheriff’s boating safety unit responded to the area, which is typically frequented by recreational boaters, to help search for the man but he was not found.
On Sunday, deputies said they returned during daylight hours to continue the search.
At 3 p.m. a body was found, but it was not the man who had been reported missing on Saturday.
The name of the person found had not been released as of Monday.
