Valerie Stewart-Green

Delta College Area 6 Trustee Valerie Stewart-Green, who was also a former employee of the school for nearly three decades, has passed away.

Stewart-Green was a resident of Tracy for 28 years and held a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.

She worked at Delta College mostly as an executive assistant to the superintendent/president for 22 years and retired in 2022. The same year, she was appointed to the Board of Trustees to continue to serve her community.

“I’m happy and excited for this opportunity,” Stewart-Green said when she was first appointed to the board. “I want to make sure that our students have the best opportunities for education and are successful, and that we do what is best for the community.”

Stewart-Green’s time as an executive assistant to the superintendent/president of Delta College led her to have a close relationship to the community. A relationship she continued as a trustee, working hard to serve the community she loved.

“I value deeply the opportunity I had to know and work with Valerie over the last nearly 25 years,” said Board of Trustees President Dr. Charles Jennings. “Since her retirement, she did not fail to step up when her community needed her and continued to work tirelessly as a trustee on their behalf.”

Delta College Superintendent/President Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson

Stewart-Green was appointed to the Delta College Board of Trustees Area 6 seat in 2022 in the wake of the passing of Teresa Brown. She represented Mountain House and Tracy.

As a trustee, Stewart-Green often spoke about her passion to ensure that people were aware of Delta College’s programs and how the programs could improve community member’s lives.

“She was a passionate supporter of students, especially students from underserved communities,” said Delta College Superintendent/President Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson who worked with Stewart-Green in her role as an employee and as a trustee. “She will be greatly missed by the campus community, and I am grateful for the dedication with which she served the district. I send my deepest condolences to her loved ones.”

School officials stated that since the seat is up for election in November, there will not be an appointment to the position. Rosario Patrick, an information technology architect, and Catalina Pina, teacher at West High School in Tracy, are on the ballot.
