👋 The big event in Stockton is almost here. Stocktonia, in partnership with San Joaquin Delta College, welcomes a panel of national journalists for an event about “Stories that Matter.” All three panelists have won Pulitzer Prizes. They’re here to talk about local news, national politics and the future of journalism in our community.

Last week, we introduced you to the panelists. And we have one update: Nicole Carroll, former editor in chief of USA TODAY and executive director of NEWSWELL, will replace Astrid Galván of Axios Local, who is unable to attend.
Here’s who you’ll hear from Thursday:
Caitlin Dickerson has covered immigration and immigrants across multiple national newsrooms. Her work documenting the family separation crisis, she said, was important in creating a permanent record for history.
Anna Wolfe has devoted her career to covering poverty, the decisions faced by people in it and the scandals of the systems around them. She says the most important thing is to honor people’s stories.
Nicole Carroll, while top editor of The Arizona Republic, led a project on the proposed U.S. border wall that won a 2018 Pulitzer Prize. She also led breaking news coverage recognized as Pulitzer Prize finalists in 2012 and 2014. She is member of the Pulitzer Prize board and hosts its Pulitzer on the Road podcast.
They’ll join a conversation mediated by Marjorie Miller, administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes. You can hear from this panel, meet local journalists and learn more about the issues at the reception and program, starting at 5 p.m.
