A man was shot Wednesday afternoon at Sherwood Mall after confronting two suspected shoplifters, according to the Stockton Police Department.

The incident occurred around 12:36 p.m. inside the mall, located in the 5200 block of Pacific Avenue in Stockton’s Lakeview District. Police said the 32-year-old victim, who was working at a business within the mall, approached the suspects over a suspected theft. The man was shot in the leg during a struggle, according to KCRA.

He was transported to a nearby hospital with what police described as a non-life-threatening injury.

Authorities are searching for two white male adults in connection with the shooting. No arrests have been made, and police have not released further details about the suspects or the business involved. The investigation is ongoing.

This incident adds to a concerning trend in Stockton. As of March 2025, the city has reported 770 violent incidents, including seven homicides, 17 forcible rapes, 189 robberies, and 557 aggravated assaults, according to police.. The number of violent crimes rose by 9.1% compared to February, with aggravated assaults and robberies driving much of the increase.
