Two people were shot — one fatally — in east Stockton on Tuesday evening, three days after a mass shooting claimed the lives of three children and one young adult just miles away.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the latest attack, in addition to the massacre in north Stockton that occurred Saturday. Spokesperson Heather Brent said that sheriff’s officials do not currently think there is any link between the two, but they are still investigating.
After reports of a shooting, deputies arrived at the 700 block of Gertrude Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. and said they found two people with gunshot wounds. Investigators said the incident appeared to be a drive-by shooting.
The victims, a man and a woman, were taken to a local hospital, where the woman later died. Authorities did not release the victim’s names or man’s condition Wednesday. .
The Sheriff’s Office did not release information about a possible motive or any suspects.
Witnesses told KCRA that they saw two people shot, and heard about 10 gunshots.
This shooting comes just days after the mass shooting that took place at a 2-year-old’s birthday party in north Stockton on Nov. 29. Four people, including three children, were killed and at least 13 others were injured among a crowd of up to 150 people at an event space. The Sheriff’s Office said it believed that case was a targeted attack, and no suspects have been identified.
