Thomas D. Mangelsen: A Life in the Wild
Haggin Museum, 1201 N. Pershing Ave., Stockton
Ongoing through Jan. 11 (and beyond)
Admission: $8 adults, $7 seniors and military, $5 youth/students, free for members and kids under 10
This nationally touring exhibition features 40 of Thomas D. Mangelsen’s most powerful wildlife photographs, offering an intimate look at species and ecosystems under threat. Mangelsen’s work takes viewers from the rivers of Alaska to the plains of Africa in a call for conservation and reflection.
Museum public hours:
Wednesdays through Fridays, 1:30 to 5 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m.
First and third Thursdays, 1:30 to 9 p.m.
Last admission is at 4:45 p.m.
WAR in concert
Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, 715 Central Ave., Tracy
Jan. 9 at 8 p.m.
Admission: $60 to $75
The legendary soul and funk band WAR brings its 50th anniversary tour to Tracy, performing hits from the 1973 Billboard chart-topping album “The World is a Ghetto.” Expect a night of high-energy grooves and cultural nostalgia. The show takes place in the Eleni Kounalakis Theatre at the Grand.
Sip & Paint Luncheon Fundraiser
St. Michael’s Church, 5882 N. Ashley Lane, Stockton
Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Admission: $40
Gather for a creative afternoon that includes painting, drinks and a catered lunch. All art supplies will be provided. Invite friends and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. Proceeds support church initiatives.
Cap Couture Hat Design Workshop
Tap That Ash Lounge, 126 E. Market St., Stockton
Jan. 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Admission: $40 for one, $70 for two (includes all materials and one beverage)
Ring in the new year with a hands-on hat decorating event that blends creativity, style and community. Each guest will receive a hat, decorating supplies and a drink. Enjoy music and good vibes while designing your wearable art.
Zion Chamber Orchestra Festival: Concert No. 2
Zion Lutheran Church, 808 Porter Ave., Stockton
Jan. 11 at 5 p.m.
Admission: $20 per concert, $50 for the three-concert series, $10 for students (grades 12 and under)
This second concert in the annual Zion Chamber Orchestra Festival features “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” and “Sinfonia Concertante” by Mozart, and “Divertissement” by Jacques Ibert. Violinist Ann Miller and violist Igor Veligan will perform as soloists under conductor Paul Kimball. Advance tickets are available at the church office or at the door.
