Local establishments and educational institutions will be hosting events throughout the month of February in honor of Black History Month.
Events at San Joaquin Delta Community College include:
- Unity March — A campus walk promoting advancement and progress within the African American community. The walk is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, from noon to 3:30 p.m. Meet at Delta College’s Danner Hall in Room 204 before the walk begins.
- African Dance Workshop — Thursday, Feb. 19, starting at 12:30 p.m. at President’s Patio. No dance experience required.
- Black Businesses Unite at San Joaquin Delta College — Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Danner Hall at Delta College.
- Zuzu African Acrobats Live Show — Monday, Feb. 23, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Atherton Auditorium at Delta College.
- Vitiligo Musical Immersion — Wednesday, Feb. 25, from noon to 2 p.m. in Danner Hall at Delta College. Includes a live band, hip hop, drumming, spoken word and art.
- Black History Nursing Information Session — Friday, Feb. 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Following suit, University of the Pacific will also host several Black History Month events, including orchestral concerts, discussions and a community health fair.
Events at UOP include:
- Pacific Winds Band with Lisa Williamson — Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m., Faye Spanos Concert Hall.
- Conversation with Chris Haynes — Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m., DeRosa University Center (DUC) Ballroom.
- PJE Concert with Orrin Evans — Friday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m., Faye Spanos Concert Hall.
Other off campus events include:
Other community events Black History Month Community Health Fair Saturday, Feb. 21, at Progressive Community Church, located at 2820 S. B Street in Stockton. The event begins at 10 a.m.
