Abnormally high temperatures are forecast this coming weekend after a calm and seasonal first week of March in Stockton, according to the National Weather Service.

There’s a chance possible light showers Monday in north Sacramento Valley, the rest of the week in Stockton and San Joaquin County will be dry, with patchy morning fog and breezy conditions mid-week before temperatures start to feel a bit warmer.

There are also light showers expected Wednesday in Stockton, National Weather Service forecaster Nathan Rick . However, Rick said the rest of March looks like mostly normal temperatures.

“Near normal high temperatures are expected this week, followed by above normal temperatures Friday into the weekend,” the NWS wrote in a social media post.

Rick said temperatures this weekend have a low chance of reaching record breaking temperatures.

“Record highs for Saturday and Sunday would be 82 degrees,” Rick said. “This weekend the chances of reaching 80 degrees is between 20 percent and 40 percent.”

Rick said during the same time last year, temperatures were in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

The National Weather Service forecast shows an upper-level low-pressure system is still moving through California today. That means scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible over the northern Sacramento Valley, foothills and mountains. In the southern Central Valley — including Stockton — the day will stay mostly dry, with only a small chance that a light shower drifts our way.

The best chance for thunderstorms is farther north, especially around Shasta County, where the weather service puts the odds at 20 to 40 percent. Any storms that pop up could bring frequent lightning, small hail and brief heavy rain.

A few stronger ones might even produce severe hail. Very light snow (less than 2 inches) is possible above 6,000 feet in the Sierra late tonight, according to the NWS.

“A weak weather system will bring light precipitation on Wednesday, mainly over the northern Sacramento Valley, foothills and mountains,” the NWS reported in a social media post. “Slick roads can be expected at times. “

Dry weather returns Thursday and Friday, but breezy north-to-east winds will pick up. Gusts over 30 mph are fairly likely (60-80 percent chance according to the forecast models), especially along and west of Interstate 5 and in the foothills.

Temperatures will gradually warm up toward the end of the week and into the weekend, reaching near normal or even a touch above average, according to the NWS. The high temperatures for the week in Stockton will be in the upper 60s’, but during the weekend the temperatures will increase to the lower 70s.
