In an effort to benefit those in need, Bread of Life will be giving away two truckloads of food Thursday at Weber Square in Stockton.
Founder Gina Valadez-Bracamonte said the nonprofit received a massive donation of frozen food and needed to donate it quickly.
With the help of other local companies and nonprofits, the agency is holding an “All Frozen Food Giveaway” between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Weber Square in Stockton.
The group, which has dubbed the event “From Freezer to Families,” will have two semi-trucks loaded with boneless, skinless chicken breasts, bacon, shrimp and other frozen food items for distribution at the park, a Park and north Van Buren streets.
Valadez-Bracamonte said Grocery Outlet donated the majority of the food, and she had to arrange the giveaway promptly.
“We got the product, and had to give it away in a short time,” Valadez-Bracamonte said Wednesday. “This was a wonderful donation we received, and we want to bring it into the community and give it away. We feel (Weber Square) is a great location.”
She said Bread of Life does have some freezer space for storage, but nothing big enough for the amount of food that was donated. Food 4 Less and the Stockton-San Joaquin Emergency Food Bank offered to store some of the food, and Dave Silva Trucking and Delta Bluegrass Company volunteered to transport it.
“This came together quickly, and we appreciate all those who helped put it together,” Valadez-Bracamonte said.
