Hospice of San Joaquin, a non-profit health care service, will kick off their annual Tree of Lights event Tuesday evening in Stockton.

Tree of Lights is an event where residents throughout the county are able to make donations to honor people who made an impact on their life or loved ones who are sick or have passed away.

The first of eight tree lighting ceremonies will be held at San Joaquin Delta College on the corner of Pacific and West Yokuts avenues at 5:30 p.m.

Each person who donates receives a colored light or treetop, depending on their donation, ranging from $5 to $1,000, which is placed on one of the eight Christmas trees throughout the county.

There will be a memory board at the event that will display the names of people recognized by the lights on the trees.

Although donations for the event began last month, donations are accepted until the end of the year.

Last year, Hospice of San Joaquin’s director of marketing and development Sandy Stoddard said they exceeded their donation goal of $255,000 by approximately $10,000.

Other tree lightings for Hospice of San Joaquin will take place in Lockeford, Ripon, Escalon, Lodi, Manteca, Rio Vista and Tracy.
