San Joaquin County got another green freeway sign with white writing Wednesday as Caltrans revealed one to honor a fallen Stockton police officer who was killed in 2021 while on duty.

The sign, which is on state Highway 4 between Interstate Highway 5 and state Highway 99, reads “Officer Jimmy Arty Inn Memorial Highway” and was unveiled and installed by Caltrans.

A dedication ceremony was held Wednesday at the San Joaquin County Fallen Officer Memorial by the Stockton Police Department, with participation from Caltrans, the Stockton Police Officers’ Association and other county officials.

“While this highway dedication will forever memorialize Officer Inn for his significant service, may it also serve as a reminder of all those in law enforcement who risk their lives each day to protect us,” said Marlon Regisford from Caltrans.

On May 11, 2021, Inn was killed by gunfire while responding to a domestic violence call in the 4400 block of La Cresta Way in Stockton.

Inn had knocked on the door of the residence and stepped off to the side, but a few moments later, Lance Lowe, 30, swung open the door and immediately started shooting at him.

Multiple gunshots were heard as Inn fell to the ground. Officers returned fire, striking Lowe. Both Lowe and Inn later died at a hospital.

According to Stockton police, the fallen officer had been a six-year veteran of the department.
