Numbers added up to a big win for Julius Cordes Elementary School at the 13th Annual San Joaquin County Math Tournament for seventh and eighth graders, held May 10, at the San Joaquin County Office of Education.

More than 190 students from across the county filled the competition space with energy and excitement, representing 35 teams from 17 schools. The tournament, hosted by the SJCOE Mathematics Department, aimed to promote excellence in math, strengthen problem-solving and teamwork skills and give students a chance to shine in a competitive setting.

Julius Cordes Elementary (Team 9) of Lammersville Unified School District clinched first place in the team competition. Epic Academy (Team 8) earned second place, while Peter Hansen Elementary (Team 29) took third.

The tournament also honored 13 students as highest-scoring individuals — three earning perfect scores and 10 earning near-perfect scores. Among those with perfect scores were Aagam Doshi (Epic Academy), Shivika Kumar (Evelyn Costa Elementary), and Vedant Tadimalla (Julius Cordes Elementary).

Students from Jefferson School, Questa Elementary, and Peter Hansen Elementary were also recognized for top individual performances.
