2022 General Election results in San Joaquin County have been officially locked in.

The county announced this week that Nov. 8 election tallies were certified Friday, six days before the deadline, and will be presented to the Board of Supervisors next week.

Technically, the county has 30 days to certify election results, but often finishes counting with plenty of time to spare.

In a news release from the county Monday, Olivia Hale, San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters, thanked “every individual who contributed to the success of the election,” including registrar staff, poll workers and voters.

“We put in place multiple measures to ensure every vote was counted accurately and on time,” Hale said in the release. “At the end of this election, I can confidently say to every resident that San Joaquin County has once again conducted a transparent and thorough election.”

Just over 160,000 county voters turned in mail-in ballots, while just under 20,000 cast their votes in person on election day.

“We got dumped on with tons of vote-by-mail. People waited until Monday or Tuesday,” Hale previously told Stocktonia following the election. “Which is perfectly fine. We have no problem with that. It’s just what I will tell people is that when we get this many ballots back this close to Election Day, we’re not going to update results every other day.”

All in all, about 46.5% of registered voters turned in their ballots, several percentage points less than the state. California’s overall voter turnout rate was nearly 51% as of Monday.

The county initially released several rounds of vote tallies throughout election night as soon as the polls closed, as is required by the state, and then made weekly updates every Tuesday on the ROV’s website.
