A 35-year-old man faces a potential sentence of life in prison after being arraigned on multiple violent felony sexual assault charges in connection with two separate attacks in Stockton last winter.
According to a press release from the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office, Sergio Sanchez Horta was booked in the San Joaquin County Jail on April 9 and arraigned April 13, according to jail records.
He faces charges that include attempted murder, rape by force or fear, lewd act with a minor, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and several firearm-related offenses, according to the press release.
“The violent and predatory nature of these crimes is deeply concerning,” District Attorney Ron Freitas said. “Our office is committed to seeking justice for the victims and ensuring that this individual is held fully accountable. We encourage anyone who may have had contact with this suspect to come forward. Your information could be critical in protecting others and bringing additional victims the support they deserve.”
Authorities allege the incidents involved the same white van with black lettering on the side.
In the first incident during December 2025, Sanchez Horta allegedly picked up a young girl in the van along Navy Drive, sexually assaulted her at gunpoint and later released her, according to the DA’s press release.
In the second incident during January 2026, he allegedly picked up a woman in the same van along Navy Drive, the press release reads. When she saw a firearm and tried to escape by opening the van door, he shot her, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Sanchez Horta remains in custody and is being held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 1, according to jail records.
The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office is actively seeking any additional victims or witnesses.
