The Teamsters Union said Sunday that its Local 439 members voted to ratify a new contract that officially ends the strike that halted trash pickups.

Stockton officials told residents in a social media post that it has been informed by Trash hauler Republic Services that it’s normal garbage pickup schedule will resume Monday.

Agreement between the two side was reached Friday night, ending the work stoppage that left garbage piling up across parts of San Joaquin County and elsewhere in Northern California. Picket lines came down when the tentative agreement was reached.

As for the ratification vote Sunday, “it passed by 100%,” said Teamsters spokesman Matt McQuaid. Local 439 has members in the counties of San Joaquin, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne,

Phoenix-based Republic Services said the contract with Local 439 included employees at the company’s Forward Landfill in Manteca. Workers who man the garbage trucks had stayed off the job so as to not cross picket lines.

The strike had resulted in trash piling up in communities across San Joaquin County. While refuse was still being picked up mostly on a two-day delay basis, recyclables and green waste were not included in the limited services.

“We appreciate the community’s patience throughout this situation, and we will work hard to catch up with needed recycling and waste collection as quickly as we can,” the company said.
