Stockton City Council will hold its first regularly-scheduled meeting of the new year this week. Here’s what’s on the agenda.
Three new councilmembers will be sworn in Tuesday in the Press Club at the Stockton Arena. The City Council’s meeting was originally scheduled to take place at City Hall, but city officials sent out a press release Monday afternoon announcing the change.
Newly-elected Michele Padilla, Michael Blower and Brando Villapudua will all take the oath of office at the start of the meeting, according to the release.
“All members of the community are welcomed and encouraged to attend,” officials said.
Blower now represents City Council District 3 and Villapudua District 5, taking over for termed-out Councilmember Canepa and Vice Mayor Fugazi, respectively. Canepa was sworn in last week as a San Joaquin County supervisor.
Former Councilmember Sol Jobrack lost his re-election bid to Padilla in November for District 1.
Other agenda items of note include:
- Mayor Kevin Lincoln will make new appointments to Council committees and adjust the committee structure/function roster.
- Adopting an ordinance to do away with the city’s “Big box Ordinance,” which went into affect in 2007, limiting most warehouse retail stores to no more than 100,000 or more square feet that have full-size groceries.
Tuesday’s City Council will not be broadcast live as is usually done. The meeting’s regular session starts at 5:30 p.m.
