Good morning, Stockton.

We’re leading today with a little newsroom news.

Stocktonia claimed five prizes in the California Journalism Awards, including first place for public service journalism. The recognition honored work across several coverage areas, from investigations to local government reporting, and reflects the efforts of a team committed to telling stories that matter in Stockton and San Joaquin County.

We don’t often write about ourselves, but we’re honored by the recognition. Thank you for supporting the important work that we do.

We’re also following the arrest of a Stockton truck driver in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash on Interstate 80. Authorities say the man was booked into the Placer County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and manslaughter.

One other reminder as summer settles in: Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been detected in San Joaquin County. The virus was found in samples collected in the Delta, marking the return of a seasonal health concern that residents may want to keep on their radar.

Thanks for starting your morning with us.
