Good morning, Stockton.

👋 It was a big Thursday night in Stockton.
Three national-caliber journalists, all of them Pulitzer Prize-winners, arrived at Delta College for a day of give-and-take about the most important issues of our time. They examined harsh realities of immigration and poverty. They confronted profound issues of freedom of speech and the power of the press.
They also got to have a little fun, meeting with Delta students and rubbing elbows with locals and local journalists in an open reception Thursday evening.
The reception preceded the main event, Stockton’s own installment of the “Pulitzer on the Road” series. The traveling series brings Pulitzer honorees together in cities across the country to talk about the issues of our time.

Thursday’s forum was co-sponsored by Stocktonia, which is a part of the nonprofit NEWSWELL, and by Delta College.
Despite the rainy weather, a crowd turned out from across Northern California to meet the three journalists: Caitlin Dickerson of The Atlantic, Anna Wolfe of Mississippi Today and Nicole Carroll, executive director of NEWSWELL.
In the evening panel, Aaron Leathley reports, each woman shared stories of her own in-depth journalism on issues of immigration, border enforcement and poverty. They also tackled the rising trend of online disinformation. Though the topics were heavy, the consensus was clear: Local news can be the solution.
If you want to be part of that solution, consider donating to Stocktonia.
