Good morning, Stockton.
Stockton is moving forward with a $1 million federal police grant, despite concerns about the conditions attached to the money.
The City Council approved the funding less than two weeks after the city withdrew from two lawsuits challenging the Trump administration’s requirements for federal grants. Rep. Josh Harder has called those requirements illegal, raising questions about the city’s decision. Andrea Baltodano has more on the vote and why Stockton officials say preserving federal funding matters.
On a different note, professional hockey is finally making its return to Stockton. The Stockton Thunder will take the ice at Adventist Health Arena this weekend for their home debut, bringing the sport back to the city after more than four years.
We’re also continuing our election coverage with a closer look at the City Council races in Districts 3 and 5. And before the weekend begins, take a look at our upcoming city meetings section to see what’s on the calendar for next week.
Thanks for starting your Saturday with us. Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you back here Monday.
