Good morning, Stockton.

We have an exciting event coming up in Stockton!
Stocktonia and San Joaquin Delta College will host “Stories that Matter,” a conversation with three Pulitzer Prize honorees from newsrooms across the country to examine what national politics and immigration policy mean for San Joaquin County.
Media organizations are facing new levels of scrutiny and threats of liability. There has been a profound shift in national politics and immigration policy. And local journalism is at risk.
Those topics are just a few of the talking points for this landmark event that’s free to the public. The evening will include three of the nation’s most celebrated journalists along with local media and college students engaging in a wide-ranging conversation about media, policy and humanity.
The discussion is part of a larger national series of “Pulitzer on the Road” events. The Feb. 13 conversation features:
- Caitlin Dickerson, a staff writer for the Atlantic who previously worked as a national immigration reporter for the New York Times. Dickerson won a Pulitzer Prize in 2023 for her explanatory reporting piece that highlighted the abuses experienced by migrant children separated from their parents.
- Astrid Galván, an editor at Axios Latino, which underscores Latino news and issues in the form of a newsletter. She and her Associated Press team were Pulitzer finalists for national reporting in 2019.
- Anna Wolfe, who has been working as an investigative reporter for Mississippi Today since 2018. Wolfe’s reporting on the Mississippi welfare fraud scandal involving a former governor and NFL star Brett Favre earned her a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting in 2023.
The event will be introduced by Adriana Brogger, a professor at Delta College, and Scott Linesburgh, the editor of Stocktonia. The conversation will be mediated by Marjorie Miller, administrator of Pulitzer Prizes.
The panelists will be covering topics such as defamation, building readership across the community and highlighting the importance of local news coverage. An opportunity for audience questions will immediately follow.
