For a small newsroom, recognition on a national scale carries extra meaning. It reflects the work of a small but mighty team focused on covering the people, issues and moments that shape Stockton.
We are proud to share with our readers this accomplishment: Stocktonia has been named a finalist for a national honor from the Poynter Prizes, placing the nonprofit newsroom alongside major metro and national media outlets. The acknowledgement highlights reporting from members of our six-person staff who are committed to local coverage and community storytelling. For a young newsroom rooted in Stockton, it is a milestone worth sharing with the readers who make the work possible.
In other news, a vote is expected Tuesday on a proposal to move Stockton City Council meetings to earlier in the day. We’re also following the findings of an investigation into the city’s OPTIC office, which found no laws were broken but described the process as rushed and confusing. And at UOP, students and community members gathered recently for Taste of the Garden as part of Sustainability Month.
