Good morning, Stockton.

Memorial Day weekend brought big crowds across Stockton, but one of the busiest spots in the city was at Swenson Park Golf Course.

I spent the weekend covering the return of the OTB Open, where thousands of disc golf fans packed the Stockton course to watch some of the top players in the world compete. The tournament drew an estimated 8,500 spectators and continues to grow into one of the city’s biggest springtime events, bringing visitors, vendors and national attention to the area.

Elsewhere, a new Stocktonia commentary reflects on how the city responds to poverty and the way Stockton is often defined by outsiders. And in California’s governor’s race, former U.S. Health Secretary Xavier Becerra is backing away from single-payer healthcare as candidates continue shaping their campaigns ahead of the June 2 primary.

Thanks for starting your morning with us. I’m grateful to keep telling Stockton’s stories.
