The search has concluded for multiple suspects involved in a carjacking early Wednesday morning in Stockton that led to a police sergeant being shot, police said.
Several people were detained in the area of Gateway Court, but an investigation to determine the potential involvement of those arrested is ongoing, according to police.
Officers had responded just before 3 a.m. to a call about a carjacking that occurred in the 700 block of Bedlow Drive and located a 69-year-old man.
The man had moderate to severe injuries and was taken to a hospital. Police did not have an update on his condition as of Wednesday afternoon.
After police conducted an investigation regarding the stolen vehicle, a police sergeant located the car in the area of Coventry Drive and Hillsboro Way.
Police allege that a short pursuit began and ultimately the driver of the vehicle stopped the car at Gateway Court and Kentfield Road, exited, and opened fire at the sergeant.
The sergeant was struck in the chest and shoulder area, but as of Wednesday afternoon remains in stable condition, police said.
Several road closures and perimeters were set up across the street from the Food 4 Less store on East March Lane as well as on Gateway Court and Kentfield Road after the suspects fled the area.
A spokesperson for the Stockton Police Department said most roads have opened again, but some neighborhood streets may remain closed while police continue investigating.
Detectives and evidence technicians have started processing the scene in the Kentfield Road area.
