Almost three months after the homicide, Stockton police detectives have just brought back the man they believe responsible for a fatal shooting in the Valley Oak district.

Police said Monday that they just extradited Meccaion Fields, 26, back to Stockton to face charges in the death of Tyree Jones III, 52, of Oakland. Fields had been arrested Feb. 1 by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada. Washoe County includes Reno. The motive for the shooting was not disclosed.

Detectives had been searching for a suspect since Dec. 20, when officers responded to a report of person shot in the 400 block ot east Bianchi Road. Jones was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to a local hospital where he died.

Fields was being held in the San Joaquin County Jail after being booked on suspicion of murder and raft of other charges. They include felon in possession of a firearm and other gun charges and resisting a police officer.
