A San Joaquin County man has been convicted of felony grand theft and insurance fraud for staging a robbery and filing a fraudulent workers’ compensation claim, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday.

Stacy Johnson pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to four months in county jail, two years of felony probation, and ordered to pay $5,000 total in restitution, prosecutors said.

Johnson conspired with others to fake a robbery of an Amazon delivery truck he was driving and later claimed psychological injuries to secure workers’ compensation benefits, according to the DA’s office.

If the fraud had gone undetected, losses could have reached $35,000, officials said.
