A woman is in stable condition after being hit by gunfire over the weekend in north Stockton, according to the Stockton Police Department. 

Officers responded to calls about someone being shot near March Lane and Pershing Avenue around 10:43 p.m. Sunday night, Stockton police told Stocktonia. After arriving on scene, they reportedly found a 39-year-old woman in a nearby parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say that the victim was reportedly driving in the area with a 32-year-old man, who is uninjured according to SPD, when their car was struck by gunfire  before pulling into the parking lot where officers found the woman shot, according to police. Police did not say who was driving the vehicle.

The woman was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition as of Monday morning, according to the police department.

Police did not provide any additional information about the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
