A Stockton man who accidentally shot himself early Monday morning ended up facing more trouble than just a trip to the hospital, according to police.

Officers responded at 4:43 a.m. to the 600 block of North Sierra Nevada Street, where a 49-year-old man had accidentally fired a gun and injured himself, according to the Stockton Police Department.

The man, later identified as Ben Butler, was taken to a hospital with an injury not considered life-threatening.

But Butler’s problems did not end there. Police determined he was prohibited from possessing firearms and also had an outstanding arrest warrant.

After receiving treatment, Butler was arrested on suspicion of weapons violations and the outstanding warrant.
