Two people died Saturday evening after their pickup truck was hit by a train at a railroad crossing in San Joaquin County.
The crash happened around 7:14 p.m. near 1830 Armstrong Road, north of Eight Mile Road, according to California Highway Patrol.
The pickup truck drove onto the tracks while the crossing guardrails were down and the train was approaching, according to the CHP.
The reason the truck entered the crossing is not known.
The train struck the truck, which then caught fire. Both people in the truck, a 29-year-old man driver and a 37-year-old passenger, died at the scene.
Their names have not been released.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
No additional information about the train or the driver has been released at this time.
