A Stockton man incarcerated in a California prison was federally indicted along with a Las Vegas woman on charges of extorting money through threats and stalking last week, federal prosecutors said.

‘Andre Davis, 39, is accused of contacting a person in 2021 through social media and beginning an online relationship. However, Davis began “repeatedly and aggressively” demanding money, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California said in a statement Thursday.

As a Kern Valley State Prison inmate, he used a combination of contraband cellphones and the inmate telephone service and messaging service to contact the victim, authorities said.

In May 2024, Nicole Nowak, 31, assisted Davis, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. The two threatened to send compromising images the victim had shared with Davis to business associates, clients, family members and friends unless the victim continued to send him money, prosecutors allege.

The victim reportedly sent more than $35,000 to Davis and Nowak before contacting the FBI.

If convicted of the conspiracy charge, Davis and Nowak face a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. If convicted of the stalking charge, Davis also faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, federal prosecutors said.
