The city of Stockton will once again open its overnight warming zones this week as temperatures are expected to hover just above or below freezing.

Warming centers will be open overnight starting Tuesday through Thursday, according to a city press release Monday afternoon.

“Overnight temperatures are expected to reach freezing or near
freezing this week and rain will continue,” city officials said.

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures to drop below 35 degrees overnight in Stockton three nights in a row. Tuesday will likely see showers as well as a low of 33 degrees and frost in the morning the next day, with Wednesday expected to drop below freezing overnight to 30 degrees. Temps will then warm up a few digits Thursday. rising back up to a chilly 34 degrees with some frost the next morning.

Overnight resting space will be open from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the Arnold Rue and Stribley community centers each night . Stocktonians will be able to seek a refuge in the centers’ heated gymnasiums, where water, snacks and restrooms will be available.

“The Warming Zones are open to anyone who may be without adequate heat or is unsheltered,” city officials said.

However, these who need full shelter services, such as a meal or medical care, should seek out the Stockton Shelter for the Homeless on South San Joaquin Street and Gospel Center Rescue mission on Harrison Street in downtown Stockton.
