If you think today is hot, wait until you see tomorrow.

From a high of 95 degrees Thursday in Stockton, the mercury is headed into the triple digits both Friday and Saturday — a predicted high of 100 both days, the National Weather Service office in Sacramento forecasts.

In its Friday forecast for Stockton, Accuweather warned: “Hot with plenty of sunshine; danger of dehydration and heatstroke if outside for extended periods of time.”

Other Northern California communities will be suffering more. The highest readings in the area are expected in Redding, where a high of 108 is forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Redding’s triple-digit hot streak is expected to the last through Tuesday. Winds will be light, if not nonexistent.

So far, though, Stockton is avoiding the long stretch of scorchers that marked the past two summers. Last September, Stockton broke its record for number of days (41) in which temperatures exceeded 100 degrees, breaking the previous record of 40 set in 2022.

Stockton officials are urging residents to stay cool. They say that public swimming pools will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on the weekends in Brooking, Holiday and McKinley parks through Sept. 1. The pools are also open Tuesday through Fridays during the week, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m..
