The northern Central Valley is forecasted to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service.
A weather system will bring heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms and moderate winds through the area, including the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys, Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
“Main hazards are lightning, small hail, brief heavy rain, and gusty winds. When thunder roars, go indoors!” the weather service said in a social media post Tuesday morning.
The northern Central Valley, including San Joaquin County, is expected to receive nearly an inch of rainfall, with areas that experience thunderstorms potentially seeing even higher levels of precipitation, according to NWS. The weather service also cautioned drivers of potentially “slippery travel on roads.”
The chance of thunderstorms is about 15% to 20% for Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday, and high probability centered over the southern Sacramento Valley, the northern San Joaquin Valley and into the foothills, the weather service said.
The upcoming rainfall will interrupt the warmer, spring-like weather the valley has experienced in recent days.
NWS forecast shows after the upcoming rain, the sun and warmer temperatures will return for a reprieve before more wet weather travels through the area again going into the weekend and next week.
