Rain and thunderstorms will move through Stockton and San Joaquin County this week before dry and pleasant conditions return, according to the National Weather Service.

A storm system is moving through Northern California and is already bringing light to moderate rain showers to areas of the Central Valley Monday afternoon, the NWS. 

The storm system is expected to move east from the coastline across the top of the top of the state through the valley, according to the forecast. Rain will become more widespread by late afternoon and evening Monday, with the storm likely continuing into Tuesday and Wednesday, the NWS forecast shows.

“As the incoming weather system lingers toward the middle of the week, isolated to scattered thunderstorm chances are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday,” the NWS wrote in a social media post.  

There is a low chance of rain expected Monday afternoon, with a high near 77 degrees, the NWS forecasts. There is a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 p.m., with rainfall amounts between a half inch and three quarters of an inch. 

Tuesday is expected to be the wettest day of the week, with a 90% chance of rain, according to the NWS. Thunderstorms are also forecasted during the day, with temperature high at around 61 degrees. 

Rain will continue into Tuesday evening, with a 70% chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm before 8 p.m., the NWS forecasts. As much as a quarter inch of rain is expected.  

Rain will gradually taper off Wednesday, with a low chance of precipitation before 11 a.m., and mostly sunny skies later in the day, according to the weather service. Max temps of near 66 degrees are expected, with overnight lows temperatures forecasted to  fall to around 47 degrees with mostly clear skies.

Dry weather is expected to return Thursday, according to the weather service, with sunny skies and a high near 72 degrees and lows around 49 degrees overnight.

The rest of the week is expected to have mostly sunny skies with high temps forecasted by the NWS to reach the low 70s.
