A 23-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Stockton’s Valley Oak District, marking the city’s latest homicide involving a young adult. Authorities say a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the shooting the next day.

The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Andrew Majewski, ABC 10 reported Monday morning.

According to the Stockton Police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 2:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of North El Dorado Street. The man was found with at least one gunshot wound and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect was taken into custody in north Stockton on Easter Sunday and booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on homicide charges, police say.

This incident adds to a string of recent fatal shootings involving young men in Stockton. Multiple young victims — including two 17 year olds — have been shot and killed in separate incidents since February. In several of those cases, teenage suspects have been arrested.

While Stockton’s overall homicide rate has declined in 2025 compared to last year, law enforcement officials have acknowledged the clustering of these shootings among young adults and teens. Investigators have not confirmed whether the cases are connected but say they are continuing to examine any potential links.

A 2023 report from the San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury about at-risk youth raised concerns about systemic gaps in services for youth, including access to mental health care, mentorship programs and community-based interventions.

As detectives work to determine what led to the latest shooting, Officer Omer Edhah, Stockton police spokesman, continues to urge community members to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation of the string of shootings.
