A parolee was arrested by the Stockton Police Department on Monday, in the ongoing investigation into an alleged homicide that occurred near downtown last week.
The suspect, 35-year-old Hector Mariscal Gonzalez, was arrested in connection to an alleged homicide that happened near Market Street and Wilson Way, according to a press release.
Stockton Police Department officers responded to a call around 7:30 a.m. about “a person down on the ground” on Monday, Oct. 27. Medical personnel located the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
After an autopsy, the Medical Examiner’s Office determined the man died from internal injuries, and determined the case was a homicide, according to the statement.
Stockton Police Detective began the investigation and identified Gonzalez as the suspect.
Officers found Gonzalez on Monday, Nov. 3, and arrested him without incident. They booked him into San Joaquin County Jail for parole violation and homicide charges.
In the state of California, a parole violation can result in a judge revoking probation and sentence a person to the full maximum jail or prison term for the original crime, minus any time already served.
The penalties for a homicide charge depend on the degree, however the time for first-degree murder is a 25-year-to-life prison sentence in California.
The Stockton Police Department spokesperson said there are no new developments at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
