Lodi police released the name of the man they shot and killed inside a local McDonald’s, who they said had injured an employee.
The suspect, 29-year-old Jonhatan Anguiano, died at the scene, authorities announced late Monday night.
According to police, they responded around 9:30 a.m. on Monday to a report of an armed person at the McDonald’s on West Lodi Ave and “heard gunfire from within the restaurant” upon arrival.
The department said one employee had been shot when officers arrived. She was later taken to a local hospital where she is currently in stable condition.
Making their way toward the gunshots, officers encountered Anguiano and opened fire. Police did not provide additional details about the encounter with Anguiano.
Photos released by Lodi Police show a surveillance video screengrab of a man wearing long sleeves under a button-down shirt appearing to hold a handgun pointed downward. Another image shows a semi-automatic pistol alongside a single round of ammunition.
Lodi police Cpl. William Hinton had first said Anguiano was “obviously injured” when asked about his condition. By an afternoon news briefing, Hinton said there was no longer a threat to the public. He described the shooting as an isolated incident and the first of its kind in the last five or six years.
In 2019, Lodi police had shot an armed man “multiple times,” after responding to reports of shots being fired near the 900 block of Industrial Way, according to a news release at the time . The man, 37-year-old Marco Kimo Aquino, survived. Armed with semi-automatic rifle and a semi-automatic handgun, Aquino faced charges of attempted murder, assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm and several other gun and drug related charges.
