Sunshine, kayaks and community spirit came together at Lodi Lake on Saturday for Paddlefest 2025, a popular kickoff to the paddling season hosted by the Lodi Boathouse.

Now in its 10th year, the event welcomed hundreds of guests to explore stand-up paddle boards, basic and premium kayaks and even high-end ultralight models. For many, it was a chance to try paddling for the first time or test equipment before making a purchase.

“We always do Paddlefest early in the year as our season opener,” said Abigail Christensen of the Lodi Boathouse. “You can come try everything — it’s a great way to get out on the water, even if it’s your first time.”

The event also featured live music, food trucks, a juice bar, face painting and a visit from the Lodi Fire Foundation, creating a festival-like atmosphere along the lake’s edge. What began a decade ago as a community demo day has grown into a full-fledged celebration of outdoor recreation and local connection.

“I think what this shows is how vital the event is to the community,” Christensen said. “We’re expecting 150 to 200 people today. It’s a reminder of how much people still want to come together and support small business.”

Attendees like KC McDaniel said the experience was both fun and refreshing.

“The water’s cool, the weather’s nice, and it’s great seeing people out here enjoying it,” he said.

For first-timer Estefany Robles, the event was also about overcoming fears.

“I was nervous, but I just figured — I need to try something new,” she said. “It’s nice that we have spaces like this where the community can come together.”

Paddlefest may be a single-day event, but the Lodi Boathouse operates throughout the week, offering rentals, lessons, and guided adventure tours.
