From student art and classical music to fitness events and martial arts, the weekend lineup in Stockton offers plenty of ways to be inspired, energized and entertained. Whether you’re supporting local talent or catching a statewide competition, these are some highlights happening Jan. 30 to Feb. 1:
Annual McKee Student Art Contest & Exhibition
Haggin Museum, 1201 N. Pershing Ave., Stockton
Jan. 30 to March 15 during museum hours
Admission: $8 adults, $7 seniors and military, $5 students with ID, free for members and children under 10
Now in its 95th year, the McKee Student Art Exhibition is the longest-running student art show in the U.S. and showcases the creativity of San Joaquin County students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Featuring more than 1,000 works selected by local teachers, the show includes paintings, drawings, photography and mixed media. Exhibits span the museum’s Tuleburg and West galleries. Regular hours are Wednesday through Sunday with extended hours on the first and third Thursdays.
Frank Wiens Piano Recital
Faye Spanos Concert Hall, 3511 Pacific Ave., Stockton
Jan. 30 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Admission: Free
Enjoy an evening of classical piano performed by University of the Pacific Faculty Emeritus Frank Wiens. The program includes works by Liszt, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and others, with featured selections such as Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata and Liszt’s art song transcriptions. The free recital takes place on campus and offers a great opportunity to hear one of the Central Valley’s most respected pianists.
Jiu Jitsu World League
Adventist Health Arena, 248 W. Fremont St., Stockton

Admission: Ticket prices vary, available at the door
This all-day martial arts event brings together athletes of all ages and skill levels for Gi and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu competitions. Expect a packed arena and high-energy matches as fighters grapple for championship titles. Hosted by Jiu Jitsu World League, the tournament highlights technical skill and physical endurance. Arrive early for seating and consider dining at nearby downtown Stockton restaurants before or after the matches.
St. Joseph’s Fun Run/Walk for Wellness
University Park, 782 E. Harding Way, Stockton
Jan. 31 from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Admission: $10–$40
Lace up your running shoes for a 5K fun run and walk benefiting St. Joseph’s Cancer Institute. Presented by Pacific Homecare Services, this 17th annual event includes a T-shirt, swag bag, post-race snacks and raffle prizes. The family-friendly race takes place on the scenic University Park campus near Dignity Health. Registration supports a good cause and encourages healthy habits to start the new year.
Stockton Youth Symphony Winter Concert
Zion Lutheran Church, 808 Porter Ave., Stockton
Feb. 1 from 5 to 6 p.m.
Admission: Free
Experience the talent of Stockton’s rising musicians in this winter concert led by Dr. Edward Cetto. The program includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 13 featuring Tristen Chen and Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ. The concert is free and offers a peaceful way to close out the weekend with classical music in an intimate church setting.
