Entering its 93rd year, club associates and curious community members welcomed in this year’s season at the Stockton Sailing Club.

Attendees were able to grab a burger from the grill, peruse booths about sailing programs and even take a free sailboat ride.

Faye Roberts and Mary Schlenger offered rides on the boat Dynamite.

“I don’t have a lot of sailing experience, but it’s such a gracious club,” Schlenger said. “They’re really helpful to set you up as a crew, or to get you more interested in sailing.”

Roberts loves the opportunity to get outside and says that you don’t have to own a boat to join the club. They are always looking for interested folks to join.

“I think people should try sailing the river,” Schlenger said. “I mean, even if they sailed the ocean or Santa Cruz, it takes a certain skill and technique to sail this river.”
