Yosemite Street Village recently welcomed hordes of Stocktonians for a round of candy-collecting and community-building — one of the many Halloween events around San Joaquin County last month.

Dozens of attendees — and sometimes their canine companions — joined the celebration on Oct. 30. The event included costume and pie-eating contests, a movie screening of “Monster House” as well as a crafts area.

The pie-eating contest featured multiple rounds where participants looked to clear a slice of pie — rather than the whole thing — as fast as possible. Sometimes it got a little messy.
