There aren’t many cities where a local politician can credit a celebrity with saving their life.
But Stockton has one.
Vice Mayor Jason Lee, who balances his role as a Stockton officeholder with a career as a Hollywood personality, recently credited Grammy-award winning artist Lizzo with coming to his rescue when he nearly fainted at a club.
The off-hand comments, posted on YouTube, came as Lee interviewed Lizzo on the red carpet at the BET Music Awards 2026 in Los Angeles on Sunday.
“Lizzo and I were at the club one day, and I got overheated and the doctor had to come, and you never told nobody,” Lee said, without identifying what club or when the medical emergency occurred.

“Oh, my God, that’s right,” Lizzo said, recalling the incident.
Lee said Lizzo gave him a rub before he was hooked up to an intravenous tube.
“I thought I was going to pass out, and you saved my life,” he said.
Lee responded to Stocktonia on Wednesday morning indicating he might have been a little overdramatic in recounting the incident with Lizzo: “It was a joke — not much more there,” he said.
This wasn’t the first time — and likely won’t be the last — that celebs have rubbed elbows with Lee.
Most recently, Lee’s friend Tiffany Haddish was one of the largest individual contributors to a Stockton political campaign. She gave $5,900 on April 28 in support of Tamica Small, who will challenge Councilmember Michele Padilla in the November general election in Stockton’s District 3.
Besides special gigs like the one for the BET Awards, Lee regularly interviews luminaries on his Hollywood Unlocked website.
