A massive four-alarm fire broke out Saturday in the 400 block of East Main Street in downtown Stockton as multiple agencies responded, according to city officials.
The blaze erupted in a vacant building and is threatening several other vacant buildings.
“The difficult situation at a three-story abandoned building caused a defensive fire attack, which requires a slower fire attack that cannot likely be directed on the seat of the fire,” Stockton Fire Department officials said. “At one point, there was a working fire in the basement. Crews are protecting exposures and will be on scene for an extended amount of time.”
Several nearby structures were threatened by the initial building fire. No reports of the fire spreading have been made.
No injuries have been reported from the fire.
