The San Joaquin County Fair isn’t just about rides and games, it’s a full-on foodie adventure. I spent the day eating my way through the grounds and narrowed it down to the top 10 must-try eats and drinks that truly made the experience. From smoky meats to refreshing sips, here’s your fair food bucket list.

1. Mr. Pork Grill’s BBQ Sirloin Sandwich

Juicy, smoky, and stacked with flavor, this sandwich stole the show. Tender top sirloin layered with garlic sauce, crisp romaine, red onions, and served on a perfectly toasted French roll. It’s hearty, satisfying and absolutely top-tier fair food.

2. Hank’s Big Dogg’s

Loaded with sauerkraut, grilled onions, peppers, mayo, mustard and ketchup, these Lockeford sausages were juicy and full of smoky flavor. Whether you go all-out with toppings or keep it classic, this one delivers big on taste.

3. Flavors by Chef Vanessa

Comfort food heaven. The fall-off-the-bone ribs were perfectly charred, the mac and cheese was rich and creamy, and the collard greens added the right amount of soul. This plate brought the backyard BBQ vibes right to the fair.

4. Jumbo Grilled Cheese

Thick, melty, and loaded with bacon — this isn’t your basic grilled cheese. It’s indulgent, cheesy in all the right ways, and had me grinning like a kid again.

5. Louisiana-Style Catfish Basket

Crispy, seasoned and cooked to perfection, the catfish was the standout among a basket full of fried favorites. It tasted fresh, not greasy and hit the perfect balance of crunch and tenderness.

6. Bunbao’s Bao Buns

Pillowy soft buns stuffed with savory BBQ pork and chicken. The flavor was bold but not overpowering, and the fact that they’re low on MSG is a win. Great for when you want something different but still delicious.

7. Acai Bowl from Mr. Pork Grill

A refreshing break from the heavier items. Brazilian acai blended with condensed milk and topped with granola and banana — sweet, smooth, and cooling on a warm fair day.

A lighter, more refreshing take on boba. It’s not too sweet and offers a nice fruity lift when you’re walking the fairgrounds in the heat. A creative, modern option amid the classics.

10. Root Beer Float from the Ice Cream Stand

The ultimate fair throwback. Classic soft serve meets icy cold root beer in this creamy, fizzy treat. Simple, satisfying, and a perfect end to a long food crawl.
