Good morning, Stockton.

👋 This week has seen some unusual law and order cases, specifically the arrest of a San Joaquin County supervisor’s chief of staff on weapons and other charges, authorities said.
Augustin Telly, chief of staff to District 1 Supervisor Mario Gardea, was booked into San Joaquin County jail Tuesday night after what appeared to be a federal raid at his Stockton home.
On Thursday, Telly – a 26-veteran with the Stockton Police Department who retired in 2021 as a lieutenant – was charged with two felonies: the unlicensed sale or transfer of a firearm and solicitation of specified criminal acts.
In a complaint filed by the California attorney general’s office, state prosecutors say Telly, 54, carried out the “solicitation to commit assault with a firearm.” The document alleges that between Jan. 6 and Jan. 21, Telly sought out a “confidential reliable informant” to commit assault with a deadly weapon. He also is charged with selling a gun “without at least one party to the transaction being a licensed firearm dealer” sometime around Jan. 21, the complaint states.
Telly has denied the charges against him. Read more about the case, including Telly’s resignation on Friday, here.
