Good morning, Stockton.

Scott Linesburgh

👋 Good morning, readers. If you’re like me — and an estimated 60 million other Americans — you watched the presidential debate on Tuesday night. It was a good reminder that we are now only 53 days away from Election Day on Nov. 5.

Here at Stocktonia, we’re committed to bringing you relevant, factual coverage of the races this November. However, we will focus on the issues important to residents here in San Joaquin County. We are watching, listening and reporting on our local races and candidates.

Over the next few newsletters, I will share more about our plans for keeping you informed this election season.

For now, I’d like to extend an invitation for you to join us for a voter education event on Sept. 23. More details and a link to RSVP are at the bottom of this message.

Today, the Stocktonia team will head downtown to the Bob Hope Theatre for the State of the County address, hosted by District 1 Supervisor Miguel Villapudua. Look for our report on it.

And now for today’s top stories: We’ve got a story by Edward Lopez about a proposed wood pellet facility at the Port of Stockton and its opposition by local environmental groups, and we’re also featuring Mike Fitzgerald’s column on the issue.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. You can always respond directly to this email to share your feedback.
