Good morning, Stockton.

For many veterans, memories of war stay close long after service ends. This week in Stockton, one veteran shared his story in his own words.

Joseph Maes, who served with the 27th Infantry Regiment during the Vietnam War, spoke about his experiences overseas and what it was like returning home afterward. Robyn Jones reports Maes served with the “Wolfhounds” from 1966 to 1971 and was stationed at Cu Chi Base Camp. His reflections come as the Moving Wall memorial returns to Stockton, giving veterans, families and community members a place to remember those who never made it home.

Elsewhere, Stockton police reported two separate shootings in the Civic District over the weekend that left two men wounded. Community volunteers also gathered at Louis Park to plant trees, clean up litter and improve the neighborhood during a local service event.

Thank you for starting your morning with us. We’re grateful to keep telling Stockton’s stories.
