A man wanted for shooting and killing his wife in Stockton has been found and arrested in Nebraska.

Sergio Torres was taken into custody on June 11 in Sidney, Nebraska after running a stop sign. Torres is currently in custody awaiting extradition to San Joaquin County for the June 4, 2022 murder of his wife, Sonia Suarez.

On the evening of June 4, Suarez was shot in the 3600 block of Munford Avenue in Stockton. She was transported to a local area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. During the investigation, it was determined her husband, Torres, 52, was the responsible party, but he could not be located.

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Officials publicized the case and a photo of Torres was released on the department’s Facebook page. When Torres was pulled over by Sidney PD, the department performed a records check and it revealed a warrant for murder.

Sidney, Nebraska is a town of approximately 6,500 and is located nine miles north of the Colorado state border.
