The San Joaquin County Coroner on Friday identified the teenage victim from Wednesday’s shooting near Unity Park in Stockton. 

Thai Khin, 17, a student at Cesar Chavez High School, died from his injuries after intervening when a friend was being assaulted, police said. 

A second victim, a 16-year-old boy, was discovered to have been pistol-whipped, police said. He survived.

Police said the boys were approached by two armed people in the area of the 2700 block of Jayden Way in the Valley Oak district. One assaulted the 16-year-old, and when Khin intervened, he was shot, police said.
